How do I claim a listing and earn the Verified badge?
Claim a listing by proving you control your company's domain; once verified, you can edit it and the Verified badge appears.
Updated
Claiming ties a listing to the person who controls the company's web domain. Verification is a yes-or-no check on that control. No traffic figure or vote count is involved.
Starting a claim
There are two entry points:
- Open the listing page and select "Claim".
- Go directly to /claim/<listing>, replacing the placeholder with the listing you want.
You then pick one method of proving domain control.
Four proof methods
- Email: we send a secret link to a mailbox on your company's domain. Open it from that mailbox.
- DNS TXT record: publish the record on the root domain.
- Meta tag: place the tag on your homepage.
- Verification file: host the small file on your website.
Each code is time-limited. It stays valid for 14 days. If that window has passed, the code is void and you need to begin a fresh claim. Data on how many claims lapse is not published, so we cannot quantify it.
Outcome of a successful check
- If nobody had claimed the listing before, you become its owner.
- You can edit the listing.
- The Verified badge is shown on it.
The badge records one fact only: you control the domain. It cannot be bought, and it has no link to paid placement or to community votes. Votes alone decide ordering, and they are never sold.
Questions people ask
- How long does a verification code last?
- It remains valid for 14 days. After that, begin the claim again to get a new one.
- Does the Verified badge raise my listing in the order?
- No. The badge only shows domain control. Ordering comes from community votes, and neither is sold.
- Which methods can I use to prove control of my domain?
- Choose an emailed secret link to a company-domain mailbox, a DNS TXT record on the root domain, a meta tag on your homepage, or a small verification file on your website.
